GRAMOPHONE AWARDS 2015 – SHORTLIST

“Stephen Layton draws extraordinary and urgent performances from his young singers – finding both the power (the ‘Trinity Te Deum’ swells to an almost symphonic climax) and delicacy (‘Only in Sleep’, ‘The Earthly Rose’) in music that is never content simply to be pretty.” – Sinfini Music

The Latvian composer Ēriks Ešenvalds is now firmly established at the forefront of contemporary choral music. A formative two-year period as Creative Fellow-Commoner at Trinity, spent in a close weekly artistic and working relationship with the choir, is represented on this multifaceted album by the ‘Trinity Te Deum’, written for the 2012 Installation of Sir Gregory Winter as Master of the College.
