Virtually blinded in a childhood accident, John Stanleuy’s precocious talents saw him receive his first church organist appointment at the age of eleven; at the age of seventeen he became the youngest person to receive the Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Oxford. Also an outstanding violinist and composer, he would assume leadership of the Covent Garden oratorio series after Handel’s death. This recording presents a selection from Stanley’s three published collections of organ voluntaries.
