Byrd, William: Ad Dominum cum tribularer I

Ad Dominum cum tribularer (First Part)

Ad Dominum cum tribularer clamavi et exaudivit me. Domine, libera animam meam a labiis iniquis et a lingua dolosa. Quid detur tibi, aut quid apponatur tibi ad linguam dolosam? Sagittae potentis acutae, cum carbonibus desolatoriis.

When I was in trouble I called upon the Lord : and he heard me. Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips : and from a deceitful tongue. What reward shall be given or done unto thee, thou false tongue : even mighty and sharp arrows, with hot burning coals.

Words: Psalm 120 vv.1-3
Music: William Byrd (c. 1540–1623)
