Purcell - Anthems for the Chapel Royal

Recorded 10-11 January 1987. Released August 1987.

“Skilful in shaping, secure in intonation, sensitive in balance” – Gramophone Magazine

Purcell’s appointment as organist of the Chapel Royal in 1682 was a watershed moment in his compositional career. This album presents a generous selection of works composed by Purcell for the Chapel Royal, including the 1695 Funeral Sentences for Queen Mary which would be sung at Purcell’s own funeral later that same year.

Originally released on Conifer, this recording was subsequently re-issued under licence in 2014 by the Alto label.
