“Skilful in shaping, secure in intonation, sensitive in balance” – Gramophone Magazine
Purcell’s appointment as organist of the Chapel Royal in 1682 was a watershed moment in his compositional career. This album presents a generous selection of works composed by Purcell for the Chapel Royal, including the 1695 Funeral Sentences for Queen Mary which would be sung at Purcell’s own funeral later that same year. This recording has subsequently been re-issued under licence by the Alto label.
