Schütz - Psalmen Davids

Recorded 30 June and 1-2 July 1990. Releaed June 1991.

“Richard Marlow…consistently renders convincing the music’s antiphonal exchanges and colourful word-painting.” – Gramophone Magazine

His Majesties Sagbutts and Cornetts join the Choir for this recording of 13 of the 26 psalms set by Heinrich Schütz in his 1619 collection. Showing clear debts to the Venetian tradition and Schütz’s teacher Gabrieli, these works would establish the composer’s reputation in his homeland.

Originally released on Conifer Classics, this album was re-released by Sony Classics in 2016 part of a six-disc compilation, > Early Choral Music at Trinity.
