MacMillan, James: O give thanks unto the Lord

O give thanks unto the Lord (2016)

O give thanks unto the Lord; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works. Glory he in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord. Seek the Lord, and his strength: seek his face evermore. Remember his marvellous works that he hath done, his wonders and the judgements of his mouth.

Music, thou Queen of Heaven, care-charming spell,
That strik’st a stillness into hell:
Thou that tam’st Tygers, and fierce storms (that rise)
With thy soul-melting Lullabies;
Fall down, down, down, from those thy chiming spheres,
To charm our souls, as thou enchant’st our ears.

Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works.

Words: Psalm 105 vv. 1–5; To Music by Robert Herrick (1591–1674)
Music: James MacMillan (b. 1959)
