Tallis, Thomas: E’en like the hunted hind

E’en like the hunted hind (1567)

E’en like the hunted hind, the water brooks desire,
E’en thus my soul, that fainting is,
To thee would fain aspire.
My soul did thirst to God,
To God of Life and Grace.
It said e’en thus: when shall I come
To see God’s lively face?

Words: Matthew Parker (1504–75), based on Psalm 42 vv. 1–2
Music: Thomas Tallis (c. 1505–85)
