With Handel, the pick of the crop is a beautifully recorded CD of three of the 11 Chandos anthems from the choir of Trinity College, Cambridge, under their music director Stephen Layton.  They date from 1717-18, and make fine alternative listening for people who love the Coronation Anthems.  The three recorded here are bright and breezy, benefiting greatly from Layton’s sprightly conducting and the enthusiasm of his younger choristers and four distinguished soloists, including Emma Kirkby, now in her seventh decade, but singing as well as ever.
